A NEW ERA OF SHOWCASE BASEBALL

High-End Brand Receives a New Design and Much More

MT. LAUREL, N.J. - AUG. 7, 2001 - Fleer Showcase Baseball, a favorite among hobbyists, is donning a new look that is sure to be a hit with collectors. Although it has a new look and feel, Showcase will still deliver all it has in the past and much more.

One of the central highlights of Showcase Baseball is Awards Showcase, a two-tiered insert set with a memorabilia card level and a autographed memorabilia card level. The set includes jersey and bat cards from baseball's Cy Young and MVP award winners, including Mike Schmidt, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, Steve Carlton, Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Don Mattingly and many more. There are also special autographed versions of these cards numbered to just 25.

With a resoundingly successful debut in Showcase NBA, Fleer's Avant Card art cards invaded the hobby as a welcome opportunity to collect something beyond the normal realm of today's collecting options. This unique art continues in Showcase Baseball with 25 Avant Card artwork cards, including a special set of 10 rookies numbered to 500 featuring Ichiro, Albert Pujols, Drew Henson and others. Other Avant Card art cards features stars such as Derek Jeter and Nomar Garciaparra. These Avant Cards serve as the basic cards for the veterans.

Another Highlight in Showcase Baseball is Sweet Sigs, an insert set featuring cards signed on a special cut of either wood, simulated baseball or a game-used outfield wall. Collectors will find Derek Jeter, Nomar Garciaparra, Willie Mays, Albert Pujols and many more.

Ichiro and fellow Japanese rookie Tsuyoshi Shinjo are featured in Showcase Sticks, a set comprised of cards featuring pieces of actual game-used bats. Other players included in the set are Barry Bonds, Reggie Jackson, Chipper Jones, Frank Thomas and more.

"Showcase has a brand new look that collectors will enjoy and the Avant Cards should be extremely collectible when the product releases," said Fleer spokesman Joshua Perlman. "The set features some of the best memorabilia cards to date, including Sweet Sigs, Showcase Sticks and Awards Showcase."

The basic card set of the newly designed Fleer Showcase Baseball consists of 100 cards, 15 Avant Card veterans, 10 Avant Card rookies and 35 Rookie Showcase cards. Parallels included in the set are Legacy Parallel (#'d to 50) and Masterpiece Parallel (one of one),
