FLEER OFFERS COLLECTORS SPECIAL WILLIE STARGELL GAME USED CARD FOR COLLETORS HOLDING AUTOGRAPH REDEMPTION CARDS
MT. LAUREL, N.J. - AUG. 2, 2001 - With the unfortunate passing of Pittsburgh Pirates' Hall of Famer Willie Stargell earlier this season, Fleer realized that many collectors would still be pulling redemption cards for autographs of the late star that would be impossible to fulfill.
Rather than replace the redemption cards with other players' autographs or scramble to find other existing Stargell items, Fleer carefully gave thought to what collectors would want the most and how they could honor the Stargell Family.
With that in mind, Fleer has obtained a game used jersey from Stargell and has created and designed from scratch a special game-used memorabilia card available to all collectors who send in a redemption card for an autographed card.
"Stargell was a special player to collectors and fans everywhere and we didn't want to rush and make a quick decision on how to fulfill redemptions for autographs that were impossible to get," said Jim Stefano, Director of Product Development for Fleer. "So we thought why not go the extra mile and create a brand new item that honors Stargell and is sure to be a keepsake among fans for years to come."
The process of obtaining the card will remain the same as collectors holding Stargell autograph redemptions are urged to send them in. The special Stargell game-used memorabilia cards will be available starting on Sept. 1, 2001.
