Fleer to Debut Greats of the Game Hockey as First NHL Product in Four Years

MT. LAUREL, N.J. - July 25, 2001 - After a four year absence from manufacturing hockey cards, Fleer has reached an agreement with NHL Enterprises to once again produce NHL cards for collectors and fans.

Fleer's first of two releases, Greats of the Game Hockey, will release in early October and contain the greatest retired NHL players ever to take to the ice. The set will feature autographs, memorabilia cards, and some of the best line-ups ever to be put into a hockey set.

"We are very excited to be producing NHL trading cards once again," said Fleer SVP of Sales and Marketing, Lloyd Pawlak. "Although we have not made NHL cards for a few years, our product development team is knowledgeable and passionate about hockey. We look forward to getting back into the Hockey arena and re-connecting with the great fan base that is so prevalent in the NHL."

Fleer Greats of the Game Hockey will feature a roster of 100 players spanning all eras of hockey beginning with the NHL's Original Six.  The five card packs will retail for $5.99 and contain autograph cards and game used cards every six packs. Game worn cards will include the following: the Original Six jersey cards with swatches from legendary players such as Ray Bourque, Stan Mikita, and Tony Esposito; game used sticks from great players like Steve Yzerman and Bobby Hull; and cards featuring original rink board pieces from the historic Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

"NHL Enterprises is honored and privileged to celebrate the careers of the players who brought the excitement and passion of NHL Hockey to the forefront," said Dave McCarthy, Director of Entertainment Products, NHLE.  "Current collectors will enjoy catching up with their childhood heroes, while today's young fans will have an opportunity to learn about the Greats of the Game, with this classic brand from Fleer."
