Fleer Gives the National a Little Stratus-faction

Appearance by WWF star Trish Stratus highlights Fleer's presence at The 2001 National

MT. LAUREL, N.J. -- JULY 1, 2001 -- Fleer Trading Cards, in an effort to promote their newly formed tag team with the WWF, pulled the equivalent of a wrestling swerve at The National by showing up with an unexpected but welcomed guest in WWF bombshell Trish Stratus. Wrestling's sexiest siren arrived at the Fleer booth late Saturday afternoon and signed autographs for a throng of lucky fans in attendance.

To say that Stratus' appearance caused an uproar would be a mild understatement. At a show that included legendary guests such as Hank Aaron, Muhammad Ali, Magic Johnson and Joe Namath, Stratus may have stolen the show and perhaps the hearts of a few onlookers along the way.

The appearance of the wildly-popular Stratus was co-sponsored by Sports Images, the on-site distributor of the Fleer Wrestlemania trading card product. Attendees that purchased a box of Wrestlemania trading cards were given a special autograph ticket that granted them access to meet Stratus and get a special Fleer WWF trading card signed by the blonde diva. In all, Stratus signed in upwards of 1,000 trading cards at the show.

"We wanted to increase the exposure of our WWF license to our core group of Hobby collectors, explained Fleer Senior VP/Sales and Marketing Lloyd Pawlak.  "What better way than to bring one of the top personalities in sports-entertainment to our booth for an autograph session."

In addition to the stir created by the Stratus appearance, Fleer also spent the weekend of The National meeting with its' hobby partners as well as a multitude of collectors. The popular spin-and-win wheel was once again present as representatives from Fleer doled out t-shirts, cards and hats to the fans on hand. There were also live samples of upcoming products including a preview of the anticipated Legacy Baseball release.

"We got to show off a lot of what Fleer is about and at the same time listen to what the collectors had to say, added Pawlak. "In this business, it's always fun to meet the people and see the passion that this hobby brings out of them."
